"He is an excellent accompanist, being a skilled pianist, and a good sight-reader. His own experience as a singer gives him particular skills as an accompanist; he is sensitive to the nuances of soloists."
(Dr Peter King - Organist and Director of Music, Bath Abbey)
"...extremely good with singers, because he understands the text of the songs and feels the words with them."
(Margaret Thomas)
In addition to his work at Bath Abbey and with the Chantry Singers, Mark has many years of experience accompanying soloists and ensembles of all sizes and abilities. In 2004 and 2005, he was one of the Official Accompanists for the song classes at the Bristol Festival of Music, Speech and Drama. During his time in York and at Clifton College, he accompanied instrumentalists in a wide variety of performances, from ABRSM Grade Examinations to an open air concert given on the College's famous Close before an audience of thousands.
Mark is keen to increase his work as an accompanist and has good availability. He is happy to play for examinations, lessons or public recitals. His rates are usually in the region of £15 - £50 per hour (depending upon the complexity of the work) plus necessary travel expenses.
In addition, he is willing to provide aural test training to students (at their homes) who may need such sessions prior to an examination. These would be charged to students/parents at a premium of £35 per session.
Please call Mark at home on 01225 426708 or on his mobile on 07984 519958, or email mark_swinton@hotmail.com.
